Customer reviews build trust, but you also want to keep spam off your shop. Every review goes to a moderation queue first — you decide whether to show it.
How customers leave reviews
Customers can leave a review from their order history (after their order has been completed) or directly on a product page if they've previously bought it. They give a 1-to-5 star rating and an optional comment.
Review statuses
- Pending — newly submitted. Not visible on your shop yet.
- Approved — visible to everyone on the product page.
- Spam — hidden, marked as suspicious. Can be recovered.
Moderating reviews
Go to Dashboard → Reviews. The page shows:
- Tabs for filtering: All, Pending, Approved, Spam
- Stats at the top: average rating, total reviews, pending count
- A list of reviews with the customer's name, email, star rating, comment, and submission date
Actions on each review
- Approve — makes it visible on the product page
- Mark as Spam — hides it. Use for clearly fake or abusive reviews.
- Delete — permanently removes it. Only use for reviews that absolutely should not be kept on record.
Spotting spam
Common signs a review is spam:
- Generic praise that could apply to any product (e.g. "Great product, fast shipping")
- Links or promotional text in the comment
- Unrelated product mentions
- Foreign language reviews on a local-language shop, especially if they don't make sense
Should you approve negative reviews?
Yes, generally. A shop with only 5-star reviews looks suspicious. Approving thoughtful 3- or 4-star reviews — even ones that mention small problems — actually increases trust because it shows real people are buying from you. Reply to negative reviews politely and offer a fix; future customers will see you handle issues well.
The pending count is your nudge
When you log in and see a pending count on the Reviews tab, take a few minutes to clear it. Reviews are most useful to potential buyers, and an unmoderated queue means nobody sees them.
